How to finish your DNA swab

Get set

Pause food and water. 30-min rule
Nothing to eat or drink for 30 minutes before collecting. Both can interfere with results.

Wash and dry your hands.
And keep your phone or tablet nearby.

Activate your kit. Can’t skip
Scan the QR code inside the kit box and follow the prompts: the tube’s ID code plus your dog’s details. Finish before you swab.

Set up the tube.
Uncap the collection tube and stand it upright in the holder inside the box. Keep the cap close.
The swab
Steps 5-85
Open the swab package.
Hold it by the plastic handle only, and keep the tip clean.

Get your dog comfortable.
Sitting or lying down, with their head held gently still.

Swab the cheek.
Lift their lip and slide the swab between cheek and gum line. Rub and rotate for about 30 seconds, roughly 20 rotations. If they pull away, pause and resume.

Break the seal.
With the tube upright, push the swab down through the foil seal until it reaches the bottom.
Seal and send
Steps 9-129
Snap and cap.
Snap the handle at the break point, toss it, and cap the tube tightly.

Mix it.
Gently invert the capped tube 5 times.

Bag it and pack it.
Tube into the biohazard bag, bag into the prepaid FedEx mailer, seal both.

Send it back.
Drop it at any FedEx location. Sooner is better for results.

Follow every step closely: an unactivated kit or unregistered tube may prevent processing and mean no report, and insufficient sample, contamination, improper handling, or shipping delays may delay results or require a new sample.
